Q: How to access ADM without any other network equipment

2025-10-15

During some troubleshooting stages, it’s important to determine whether the issue is related to the NAS, the PC, or the network environment.

Below is a method to directly connect the NAS to a PC to bypass other network devices and help isolate the root cause.

**Steps:**

  1. Find a PC with an RJ45 LAN port, and connect it directly to the NAS using a LAN cable.
*Make sure the LAN port LEDs on both the PC and the NAS light up once the cable is connected.

  2. Configure the PC LAN port IP to 169.254.1.10

  3. Use a paper clip to press and hold the reset button on the back of the NAS until you hear a beep.
*This will not affect the data on the NAS. It only resets the network settings and restores the default admin account.

  4. Open a browser and visit: http://169.254.1.2:8000
*After the reset, if you're connecting to LAN port 1, the NAS will use IP address 169.254.1.2.
LAN port 2 will use 169.254.1.3, and so on.

If you are able to successfully connect using this direct method and access the data on the NAS, it suggests that the issue may lie with the existing network environment or the previous connection setup.

If resolving the network or connection issue will take some time, and the NAS remains accessible in direct connection mode, this would be a good opportunity to back up your data or retrieve any important files as needed.
