If you are on a tight budget and don't want to buy a complete set of hard drives along with your NAS, you can just buy one or two drives according to your needs. Later, when your storage needs require it, you can choose to buy more drives and adjust your RAID level accordingly.

    For example, if you started with an AS5404T NAS model (maximum capacity of 4 drives) and hoped to have a storage volume that could support one faulty drive then you might first purchase two hard drives in order to create a RAID 1 volume.
