Using AiMaster on your mobile devices

1. Installing AiMaster and connecting to ASUSTOR NAS

AiMaster enables you to initialize and activate your NAS immediately through your phone or tablet. Easily monitor your ASUSTOR NAS, add users, download and install apps, update ADM and adjust ADM settings, making the new AiMaster easier than ever.

AiMaster is available for both iOS and Android. In this course we will be using the Android version of AiMaster as an example.


1.1 Installing AiMaster


STEP 1

  • Search AiMaster on Google Play or the apple app Store.
  • QR code shortcuts are below.
  • Download and install the app.

1.2 Connect to your NAS using AiMaster

After installing AiMaster, there are a variety of ways to sign in to the ASUSTOR NAS from AiMaster.

Note: AiMaster only supports administrator accounts.


If using AiMaster for the first time:

Please ensure Wi-Fi on your device is turned on. Your NAS will not appear if it is not on the same network.

  • Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
  • Select your NAS.
  • Enter the ADM administrator account and password, and click Login.
  • If your NAS cannot be found in the list, click to reattempt to find your NAS.


  • Enter the IP address, DDNS domain or Cloud ID of your NAS to connect.
  • Enter the ADM administrator account and password.
  • If using an IP address or DDNS, click Advanced and enter the correct ADM HTTP or HTTPS port.
  • Click Login.


If you have installed other ASUSTOR mobile apps and signed in to your NAS:

  • The new ASUSTOR mobile apps share mobile login data with other ASUSTOR mobile apps by default to make using ASUSTOR mobile apps easy. This can be turned off.


  • Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
  • Select your previously-signed-in NAS or one of the NAS devices located in the same network of your mobile device.
  • Enter the ADM administrator account and password, and click Login.


Note: It is recommended to enable the EZ-Connect service and use Cloud ID to sign in.



1.3 Share login info and manage server list

The new ASUSTOR mobile apps share mobile login data with other ASUSTOR mobile apps by default to make using ASUSTOR mobile apps easy. This can be turned off.


  • Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
  • Click on .
  • Login synchronization can be enabled or disabled here.
  • Select a saved server and click to remove login information.



1.4 Initialize ASUSTOR NAS

If an uninitialized ASUSTOR NAS is listed in the server list, AiMaster can be used to initialize and set up your NAS.


  • Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
  • Select an uninitialized NAS.
  • Confirm the NAS name and IP and click Initialize.
  • Click Start Initialization, and AiMaster will start initializing your NAS after confirmation.





2. Shutting down and waking ASUSTOR NAS with AiMaster

After logging in to your NAS with AiMaster, you’ll be able to shut down, hibernate and wake up your NAS both within and outside your local network, provided settings are set correctly. The option to put your NAS to sleep is unavailable on models that do not support S3 Sleep Mode. Click here to read more about Wake on LAN (WOL) and Wake on LAN (WOW) support.


Putting your NAS to sleep:

  • Use AiMaster to connect to your NAS.
  • Select the menu icon from the upper-right corner.
  • Select Shut Down or Sleep. The NAS will then either shut down or enter S3 Sleep Mode.
  • AiMaster will indicate that your NAS is shutting down and redirect you to the login page.


Waking your NAS:

  • Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
  • Click to wake a selected NAS.
  • Your NAS will need time to wake up. Please wait before attempting to log into your NAS.




3. Monitoring your ASUSTOR NAS

View and monitor NAS health and monitor resources of an ASUSTOR NAS at any time through AiMaster. After enabling push notifications, ADM can send out event messages to your phone or tablet.



3.1 View and monitor NAS health and monitor resources of your ASUSTOR NAS

Using AiMaster to connect to your NAS, and click on [Overview].


Storage Manager:

View the usage of all volumes and MyArchive here. Click on View All to view detailed information on drive usage.



Activity Monitor:

View CPU, memory and network stats here.
Click View All to view detailed information about NAS activity. On this page you will be able to view information regarding:

  • CPU and memory status
  • Network traffic
  • Hard disk usage
  • Processes



Online User:

Viewing the status of online users currently connected to the NAS quickly here.
Click View All to view detailed information about NAS online users. On this page you will be able to view information regarding the status of connected users.

  • All online users of the NAS: Is able to add selected IP addresses to the blacklist as well as disable selected user accounts and disconnect connected users.
  • Blacklist: Holds blacklisted IP addresses. IP addresses can be manually added or removed.



Important logs:

Viewing the important event logs on the NAS quickly here.
Click on View All to view detailed log information. On this page you will be able to view information regarding:

  • System Log
  • File Access Log
  • Connection Log



Click [ADM] [System Information] to view NAS system information.



3.2 Configuring push notifications

To receive push notifications from your NAS on AiMaster, please enable both the sending feature on the NAS and the receiving functionality on your mobile device.


STEP 1

  • Use AiMaster to connect to your NAS, and click on [ADM].
  • Click [Settings] [Notification].
  • Click [Enable push notification service].
  • Select the types of notifications to be sent to your mobile device.


STEP 2

  • Click the user icon .
  • Click [Receive notifications].
  • Now, whenever system events occur, your NAS will notify you via push notifications to your mobile devices.




4. Controlling and adjusting ADM settings

AiMaster is an app for mobile devices for controlling and adjusting ADM settings.



4.1 ADM Settings

Using AiMaster to connect to your NAS, and click on [ADM] [Settings].



  • Security:
  • AiMaster has several options for improving security on your ASUSTOR NAS.


  • ADM update:
  • AiMaster can check for updates and instruct your NAS to install updates as well as set up automatic updates.


  • Register:
  • Use AiMaster to verify whether you are signed in with your ASUSTOR ID as well as manage settings.


  • Notification:
  • Push notifications can be enabled and disabled here.


  • Date & Time:
  • Time and date settings are here.


  • EZ-Connect:
  • EZ-Connect settings can be modified here.


  • Scheduling:
  • ADM Scheduling settings.


  • Hardware:
    • Fan speed: Fan speeds can be modified to keep your NAS cooler or quieter.
    • Energy Control: View and modify hard disk hibernation settings and system sleep mode here.
    • LED: View and change NAS LED brightness and LED night mode related settings here.
    • Note: Clicking Night Mode on the menu of AiMaster will open LED settings.
    • Buzzer: View and modify the buzzer settings of NAS here.
    • Enable or disable the reset button and infrared receiver of the NAS here.




4.2 Creating a new ADM user account with AiMaster

AiMaster supports user account management. This section will demonstrate how to add a normal user account.


STEP 1

  • Click [ADM] [Access Control].
  • Click .


STEP 2

  • Enter a name and password for a new user and then click Next.


STEP 3

  • You will now be able to configure access rights for the new user. In this example we will select [Self define] and then click Next.


STEP 4

  • Here you will be able to configure a group for the new user. In this example we will select [users] and then click Next.


STEP 5

  • These settings configure the new user’s access rights to shared folders. In this example we will configure access rights for a shared folder named [Public].
  • Select [Public] and then select [Read & Write] (RW) for access rights. Click Next.


STEP 6

  • Here, you can choose to configure a storage quota for the new user. Click Next.


STEP 7

  • Configure app privileges for the new user by selecting apps that the user will be able to access. Click Next after you are finished.


STEP 8

  • Confirm your settings and then click Finish once you are done.
  • The new user will appear in the users list.


AiMaster also supports the addition of user groups, editing of user privileges for apps as well as modification of app privileges for normal users on the Access Control.


Note: Administrators have access to all apps. Only the user privilege of the App for the normal users need to be granted here.



4.3 Enabling ADM Services

Connect your NAS using AiMaster, and click on [ADM] [Services] to enable or disable ADM network or file services.




4.4 App Central

Connect to your NAS using AiMaster, and click on [ADM] [App Central], view the status of all apps in App Central.



  • Installing apps:
  • Select an app on each tab of App Central and click Install to download and install an app to your NAS.

Note: Apps installed on your NAS are run on ADM or web browsers and cannot be directly used on AiMaster or mobile devices.


  • Enabling, disabling or removing apps:
  • Click Installed. Apps can be removed, enabled or disabled here.


  • Updating apps:
  • Click Update, select an app and press Update.


  • App Central menu:
    • Settings: View and modify App Central related settings here.
    • Log: View the log of App Central here.
    • Tabs: Select pages for display in AiMaster as well as change the display order.



4.5 Web Center

Connect to your NAS using AiMaster, and click on [ADM] [Web Center] to view and modify Web Center related settings here.



Web Server:

  • Enable the web server and set the port, the default is 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS.
  • Web server implementation: Select a web server package, the default is Apache HTTP Server.
  • Enable EZ-Connect port forwarding: Enable port forwarding to enable remote access.
  • PHP implementation: Select the installed PHP package, the default is PHP 7.
  • Enable PHP cache: Enabling PHP cache could enhance the PHP performance. However, it may not take effect under some circumstances.


Implementation:

  • Display the status of all available web servers and PHP packages in App Central. Click [Install] to install a package directly.




5. Executing backup tasks with AiMaster


5.1 Executing One Touch Backup jobs

One Touch Backup varies with different models. AiMaster will display an icon to execute backup jobs on supported NAS devices.


STEP 1

  • Connect an external USB storage device to the USB port on the front of the NAS.

STEP 2

  • Connect to your NAS using AiMaster.
  • Click [ADM] [One Touch Backup] and then click the [Settings] icon.


STEP 3

  • In this example we will select [From USB device to NAS] for Transfer mode, [Copy] for Backup method, and the [/Public/USB_backup] shared folder for the Folder path.
  • Click on [Apply] once you are finished with the configurations.


STEP 4

  • Click on [Start] to begin the backup job.
  • The current backup progress will be available here, click [Cancel] to abort the backup job.



5.2 Executing Backup jobs

Connect to your NAS using AiMaster and click [ADM] [Backup & Restore]. Backup and Restore supports Remote sync, FTP, internal and external backup jobs. Jobs can be executed from here.





6. Additional notes


  • AiMaster supports finding your NAS amongst many by clicking Find Me. Find Me sends an audible beep to make finding your NAS easy.


  • When MyArchive or external USB devices are mounted in an ASUSTOR NAS, the icon will be displayed on the main page of AiMaster to easily eject MyArchive or external drives.


  • AiMaster makes it easy to obtain technical support. Click "Contact support" located in the settings page, or click More to find the option to contact support. Ensure you are signed in to be able to provide relevant information in your support ticket.
