The Challenge

Zoltan Batky has used different numerous methods for data storage. In the last few years, he used a small NAS from another brand. Unfortunately, it’s been bricked since a firmware update and rendered completely useless. With a bricked NAS, he has had to find a new NAS as he needs to store about 4 TB of data with 200 GB of data generated ever month. His previous NAS was beginning to feel long in the tooth before its eventual death and he was beginning to need something better that could be scaled up in a secure way. Also, as he began working with others, he found that he needed a secure solution that can function as a sharing center for colleagues and bandmates. He's had to search for a model that can do several different tasks and functions, and be reliable, as the data he is working with is sensitive.

The Solution

Zoltan needed a device that stores, shares, and backs up data securely. It should also work as a private cloud for data and multimedia when traveling, and also functioning as a password-protected, joint cloud space for colleagues, partners and family members. He needed a secure and reliable solution – and with the untimely demise of his previous NAS, he couldn’t afford to lose data. The NAS also had to be faster, as data requirements continue to grow along with him year by year. A NAS with support for SSDs was also crucial as the extra random I/O speed provided by SSDs help with content creation.
