AS-2026-023: PHP (PHP2Shell)

2026-10-22

Severity

Critical

Status

Ongoing

Statement

The PHP Group released patches for two critical vulnerabilities - CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 which are commonly known as the PHP2Shell vulnerabilities. Both vulnerabilities allow for unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE), potentially granting an attacker the same execution privileges as the web service itself.

CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 will affect ASUSTOR products with PHP installed on ADM. As the PHP Group only provides security patches for versions 8.2 and later, PHP 7, PHP 7.3, PHP 7.4, and PHP 8.1 are being removed from App Central effective immediately.

Affected Products

Product Severity Fixed Release Availability
ADM 5.0 and 5.1 Critical Ongoing.
ADM 4.3, 4.2 and 4.1 Critical Ongoing.
ADM 3.5 and ADM 4.0 Critical Disable the Web Server and remove any legacy PHP versions (PHP 7, 7.3, 7.4 and 8.1) that are no longer supported by the PHP Group.

Mitigation

Before the fixed versions (PHP 8.3.36 and PHP 8.4.27) are available in App Central, please disable the Web Server in the Web Center and remove any legacy PHP versions that are no longer supported by the PHP Group, ensuring to use only PHP 8.3 or later versions.

Detail

  • CVE-2026-109618
    • Severity: Critical
    • CVSS4 Base Score: 9.2
    • CVSS4 Vector: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
    • PHP uses longjmp() for out-of-memory (OOM) errors to exit the current context and abort handling of the request. Some contexts may not properly account for this scenario and leave request memory in an uninitialized state before performing an allocation. The subsequent request cleanup procedure may read or branch on this memory. Multiple OOM strategies can consistently trigger this condition and lead to remote code execution (RCE).
  • CVE-2026-109619
    • Severity: Critical
    • CVSS4 Base Score: 9.2
    • CVSS4 Vector: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
    • PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE).
