ASUSTOR Announces External CD/DVD/Blu-ray Optical Drive Compatibility

All ASUSTOR NAS devices have added support for 15 different external USB optical drives (CD/DVD/Blu-ray). Users can directly drag and drop data on from optical media to specified folders on the NAS, providing convenient file sharing among multiple users and avoiding potential damage to the original disc.

Taipei, Taiwan, July 8th 2014 – ASUSTOR Inc., a leading innovator and provider of network storage solutions, announced today that it has added external USB optical drive (CD/DVD/Blu-ray) compatibility to its NAS devices. In total, 15 drive models have been verified as being compatible including the BW-12D1S-U, SBW-06C2X-U, and SBW-06D2X-U Blu-ray drives from ASUS. Now all ASUSTOR NAS users will be able to use these drives to access and backup data to optical media. The data from optical media can then be easily shared with others via the NAS.  Furthermore, with the phasing out of optical drives on most modern computers, this function can allow multiple computers to share a single optical drive, providing added convenience to work groups.

After backing up data from optical media, the original disc can then be put away for storage, avoiding the potential physical damage and data loss that could occur due to frequent usage of the disc.

CD/DVD/Blu-ray Optical Drive Compatibility

“Due to the increasing growth in digital data, many people have chosen to store data on optical media for convenient access, “ said Quote Lin, Director of Research and Development at ASUSTOR. “We are excited to add compatibility for optical drives to ASUSTOR NAS devices and are proud to announce that we have stringently tested and verified a range of optical drives that can be recommended to users who wish to access optical media from their NAS.”

ASUSTOR NAS users will be able to enjoy the use of the new optical drive functionality upon upgrading to ADM 2.2. The Beta version of ADM 2.2 was released in June and after a month of testing, the official version was released. ADM 2.2 has added new features such as the HiDrive cloud storage service, a beta version for the new Mail Server App and external optical drive compatibility.
