Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) Ready: ADM Prepared for Future Threats

ASUSTOR has officially upgraded ADM to support PQC Hybrid TLS encryption certified by the US NIST. This fully adopts the official version of the Kyber algorithm, X25519+ML-KEM 768, and in ADM 5.1 and later, is automatically enables this feature through TLS 1.3 without requiring any configuration. This protects against the Harvest Now, Decrypt Later threat. As long as your browser supports PQC, it will immediately establish a post-quantum cryptography (PQC) encrypted secure connection, and the connection status will be clearly displayed through the ADM interface, ensuring that data stored on your ASUSTOR NAS can withstand future quantum computer threats.

What is Harvest Now, Decrypt Later?

Harvest Now, Decrypt Later refers to attackers intercepting or leaking encrypted data now and storing it long-term, waiting until future quantum computers or other technologies become mature enough to make it easier to decrypt stolen information. This is especially dangerous for information requiring long-term confidentiality such as personal data, medical and financial records, intellectual property, long-term backups, and confidential communications because encryption that seems safe today might not be safe in the future. Therefore, government agencies are urging the early adoption of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and hybrid key exchange to ensure data can withstand future quantum computer threats.

    Notes:
    1. This feature is automatically enabled in ADM 5.1 and later versions.
    2. Browsers supporting this feature include: Chrome 131.0.6778.70 (Nov. 2024), Edge 131.0.2903.48 (Nov. 2024), Firefox 132.0 (Oct. 2024), and Opera 116.0.5366.0 (Jan. 2025) and later versions.

    FAQ

Q:How to setup direct connection between the NAS and the PC via a LAN cable

By connecting the NAS to the computer directly via LAN cable, the NAS shell retains its default static IP address which is 169.254.1.2(LAN1), configures the PC LAN IP address to the same segment(for example 169.254.1.10), then you can use ACC to scan and list the directly connected NAS information.

Q:Where is the ADM Health Record?

Dr. ASUSTOR can be used to check the health of your NAS. DR. ASUSTOR checks certain settings that may affect system or data security. Dr. ASUSTOR will give you appropriate instructions to ensure that the system and data is intact. For more information, please send an exported ... Learn more about this >
